View larger image of 'Gymnocalycium in Habitat and Culture'Charles, Graham -  Gymnocalycium in Habitat and Culture
A welcome new book on a popular genus of Cacti from a well known author in the Cactus Plant World. Based on his extensive experience of cultivating these plants and observing them in habitat, the book is written in his usual informative and easy to read style. After brief introductory sections on their history, characteristics, classification, cultivation, habitat and distribution, the bulk of the book covers the 56 species that he recognises. For each species and recognised sub-species there is a full description, etymology (meaning of the species name), distribution with a map, conservation status, history, commentary and cultivation information. The 624 colour illustrations cover the typical countryside they live in as well as plants in habitat, historic illustrations and plants in cultivation, and show some of the variation in the species. Final sections cover further reading, references, chromosome counts, cristate and variegated plants and Graham’s collection numbers. All that the grower would want. 2009 11 ¼ x 8 ½ 288 pages
